Dr Richard Hanly is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in reconstructive surgery of the lower limb.

After commencing private practice in 2017, Dr Hanly continues to balance his private practice with dual public appointments as the Orthopaedic Director of Training at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and a Visiting Specialist at The Prince Charles Hospital.

Educated in Brisbane, Dr Hanly graduated from The University of Queensland with his Medical Degree in 2006. He completed his Orthopaedic training in Queensland and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in February 2015.
Following his specialist training, Dr Hanly completed a 12-month fellowship at the renowned Exeter Hip Unit within the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in the United Kingdom. Working alongside leading hip surgeons Mr John Timperley, Mr Matthew Hubble, Mr Jonathon Howell and Mr Matthew Wilson, he gained extensive experience in complex primary and revision hip reconstruction and arthroplasty.

He subsequently completed a fellowship in the Foot & Ankle Unit at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead Hospital in Bristol, under the guidance of Mr Ian Winson and Mr Steve Hepple. This internationally recognised unit has a strong focus on reconstructive foot and ankle surgery and advanced arthroscopic techniques.

Dr Hanly has also completed the specialised training required to perform MAKO® Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacement, offering advanced robotic technology for hip and knee replacement surgery.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Hanly is a Senior Lecturer with The University of Queensland School of Medicine.

He is a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association and a Member of the Arthroplasty Society of Australia.
